On May 08, 2008, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) formally announced that all three protests filed against the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Next Generation Identification (NGI) Program have been dismissed.
It was on February 12, 2008, that the Federal Bureau of Investigation awarded Lockheed Martin Transportation and Security Solutions the contract for the NGI requirement under contract number JFBI08041. However, the award was protested by IBM under three separate protests.
Later, on May 2, 2008, Lockheed Martin and IBM announced that they had reached an agreement to work together on the NGI requirement. This announcement was promptly followed by the dismissal of all three protests.
The Next Generation Identification (NGI) program will provide biometric identity management within an innovative services-oriented framework. Identification resources will be configured as modular and independent components, which can be assembled and fused at the application layer into composite needs-specific identity assurance services. Lockheed Martin’s contract features a ten-year duration worth an estimated $1 billion.
