There will be the expected opportunities for the federal government IT and professional services industry due to the necessary assistance with re-alignment and closure activities, to include the effects on business processes, human capital and workforce issues, infrastructure consolidation and upgrade and many other services. There should also be significant opportunities from the consolidation of DFAS operations, which looks to be considerable, and the apparent consolidation in shipyards and submarine bases.

A major change may result should the proposal to close Fort Monmouth be adopted. If CECOM moves elsewhere, it will have a significant impact on the IT community serving that command.

The recommendations include consolidating many National Guard and Reserve centers. Also, officials mentioned consolidation of medical facilities, which may signal other opportunities for the IT and professional services industry.
